We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Music Arena Gh for a deep dive into the stories and sounds behind our self-titled debut album. It’s not every day we get to pull back the curtain on our creative process, and we loved the chance to share what makes The Daytime High tick.
A Bold Beginning
The interview explores why we chose to go with a self-titled debut. As we shared with Mister Styx, after cycling through several working titles that didn’t quite fit the artwork or the vibe, we realized that letting the music speak for itself was the boldest move we could make. From the “sunny West Coast” energy of “Every Single Day” to the “Stonesey” rock of “History Man,” the album is a tour of our collective DNA.
The Sounds of The Garudio
We also got into the technical side of the record. To create our “hall of fame” inspired sound, we experimented with a variety of textures at our studio in Thousand Oaks, including:
Mellotrons, organs, and strings for that classic depth.
Nashville tuning and synths to bring a modern edge.
And yes, plenty of cowbell (especially on “Every Single Day”)!
Humor, Hope, and Heartbreak
One of the most important takeaways from the interview was our philosophy on songwriting. We treat loss, alienation, and love with equal enthusiasm, often using humor as a way to empower the listener. As we told Music Arena Gh, the central journey of the album is one of resilience: “There is always hope regardless of what happens as long as you keep getting back up.”
